I grew up in New York City and have lived here most of my life. My interests include computers, science, art, history, religion and politics.
I graduated from St. John's University in Jamaica with a BS in Biology and a minor in Fine Arts and another minor in the Philosophy of Law. As you might guess with a minor in fine arts, I am an inveterate doodler and you will find me sketching on just about any piece of paper I get my hands on.
So what have I done since graduating? Well, there was the year I spent working with an organization called Chrysalis in L.A. (through the auspices of Americorps.) I lived in the Rampart Division of LA, which is supposedly one of the "hardest" barrios in LA, but no one ever gave me a hard time. I worked in L.A.'s Skid Row , the largest ghetto in America, as a Employment Counselor for Chrysalis. Chrysalis' whole philosophy is helping homeless people achieve self sufficiency through work. Working with Chrysalis and in Skid Row was truly a life altering experience, it helped me to get an "in the trenches" view of poverty, substance abuse and homelessness in America. The most remarkable thing about Skid Row, were all the people who had been homeless in another state, who moved to L.A. for the weather. After working with Chrysalis for 1 year I decided to return to NYC.
Of course I will always miss that Southern California sun. One of the strangest things about L.A. was that you can't jaywalk... which any New Yorker will tell you is nearly a God given right, well ... it's a ticketable offense in L.A.
When I got back to NYC, I started working with computer networks, my first job was for the publisher of Cigar Aficionado , and Wine Spectator magazines. After about two years, I went to work at a dot com called Funny Garbage , like all dot coms it was a really fun place to work... while it lasted. After about a year, I was laid off.
After job hunting for a while I landed a job at a small NYC consulting company. That lasted about a year and now I am an independent computer consultant. There's nothing I enjoy more than cultivating the open honest relationship I have with my clients and helping them make the technology decisions which keep them competitive. Simultaneous to this, I am also pursuing a graduate education in biology.
